A Llanelli Masters Graduate, Thomas Purdue has made a 4-minute animated documentary about dementia as part of his master’s degree.
Several people from the Carmarthenshire who have experience with dementia were interviewed, with those interviews directly providing the audio for the film.
Speaking to Llanelli Online Thomas said: “The project began after a family member was diagnosed with dementia, followed by a realisation of the vast gap of knowledge that the family had for the disease. The film deliberately focuses on multiple symptoms as our research showed a heavy focus placed on memory alone. The symptoms and experiences of the people I spoke with goes beyond just memory.
“I have sent the film to multiple charities in the hopes that they can use it as a unique way to raise awareness. I am also currently organising a fundraising walk up Pen Y Fan, the proceeds of which will go to both the Alzheimer’s Society and Hafan-Y-Coed care home who are currently looking after the before mentioned family member.
The film is called Remembering Dementia and can be viewed here
