A kaleidoscope of colour is very soon on the way to a Carmarthenshire town with the staging of the Llanelli Pride festival.

Being held on Saturday August 3, Llanelli Pride will celebrate equality, diversity and community spirit.

The free event – being supported by Carmarthenshire County Council’s event support fund – will include a parade, live entertainment, a fun fair and over 65 stalls.

Food and drink will also be available, along with wellness facilities including an holistic therapy room and a sensory room.

The parade is leaving from outside the Y Ffwrnes theatre at 11.30am before making its way through Llanelli town centre to the Selwyn Samuel Centre where the main event will be held.

The main event in and around the Selwyn Samuel Centre will last from 12.30pm to 6.30pm.

Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths, Carmarthenshire County Council’s Executive Board Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: “Carmarthenshire is an inclusive county where diversity is welcomed and embraced, so it’s very pleasing that we’re able to help deliver Llanelli Pride through our event support fund.

“As well as celebrating Carmarthenshire’s LGBTQ+ population, Llanelli Pride also gives an opportunity to champion the community spirit that makes the town and county such a fantastic place to live.

“A parade, live entertainment, stalls and other activities will combine on the day to generate a fantastic, vibrant event that will boost Llanelli town centre business by attracting more footfall.

“Similar events in other towns and cities in the UK have been enormously successful, so we’re hoping for a similar impact in Llanelli on Saturday August 3.

“Everyone involved in Llanelli Pride’s organisation deserves considerable credit.”

Powdered colour ‘paint bombs’ will be available in front of the main stage on the day at the Selwyn Samuel Centre for £2 each or three for £5.
