The Member of the Senedd for Llanelli, Lee Waters, has visited the Gateway Resort in Bynea. As well as a tour of the site’s facilities, he spoke to owner, Ken Strelley, about the resort’s impressive developments, its eco-friendly practices, and his plans for the future.
The site, which originally opened with 30 touring pitches, now has over 400 pitches, a roller-coaster, fishing lake, indoor swimming pool, two bars which can seat 700 people, an American diner, and a shop.
Following the visit, Lee Waters MS said:
“This is a really impressive venue, providing a great deal for holidaymakers and local residents.”
“I was particularly impressed with Ken’s keen eye for sustainable practices. The site has its own borehole to produce water; Ken is looking to introduce solar panels; and he has equipped two biomass boilers to supply its energy.”
The Gateway owner, Ken Strelley, said:
“I would like to thank Lee for visiting us. It’s great to have our local MS taking time and interest in Gateway Resort, we are a big part of the local community and a large, local employer.”
“I look forward to Lee returning early next year for the official opening of our hotel, which will shortly be under construction.”
Bynea’s Carmarthenshire County Council candidate, Deryk Cundy, added:
“I think this just goes to show the entrepreneurial and community spirit that exists in Bynea. Ken has taken an idea and is providing over 80 local jobs this side of the Loughor estuary.
A top-class family venue that attracts tourists and benefits not only the local community but also the wider area worth millions to our businesses. It has been a privilege to support Ken in his ongoing vision.”
Additionally, Ken Strelley is also donating a section of his own land so that the council can improve part of the Millennium Coastal Path.
Carmarthenshire County Council are able to make these improvements because of the active travel funding made available by Lee Waters as Deputy Minister for Climate Change in the Welsh Government.
