MID and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service has received recognition for its commitment to using Fairtrade products.
Fair Trade coffee, tea and sugar will now be served at MAWWFRS Headquarters in Carmarthen, Earlswood training centre and Aberystwyth Fire Station’s Caffi Tân.
On Thursday 27th February 2020, at a meeting with the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales, MAWWFRS’s Head of Procurement, Helen Rees, met with Jenipher Wettaka Sambazi, a Fair Trade coffee producer from Uganda, to discuss the role of public bodies in supporting Fair Trade producers.
The introduction of the Fair Trade products, in support of The Future Generation Commissioner’s Art of the Possible programme, has been implemented by MAWWFRS Procurement Department and Catering Managers.
The “Art of the Possible” is one of the Commissioner’s main programmes of work.
Helen Rees, Head of Procurement and Contracting for MAWWFRS said, “We are delighted to support and respond to the opportunities that the Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 provides us with. These opportunities enable us to make better decisions for future generations when procuring goods and services.”
Area Manager Craig Flannery, Corporate Head of Resources for MAWWFRS said “Doing the right thing and treating people with respect is at the core of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s values. It is only right and proper, therefore, that we pledge our support to The Future Generation Commissioner’s Art of the Possible programme.
I would also like to add that the coffee is delicious!”
