A REPORT examining the flooding at Milford Haven in November 2018 – and ways of reducing the risk of it happening again – will be discussed at a dedicated meeting next month.

Pembrokeshire County Council commissioned a report into flooding at Haven’s Head and Lower Priory and it had been due for discussion at Tuesday’s (June 16) services overview and scrutiny committee.

However, committee chairman Cllr Rob Summons proposed that it be adjourned to a “stand-alone” meeting on July 21 to allow full examination.

The Capita study used hydraulic modeling to represent the November 2018 flooding and developed a longlist of 20 options for reducing risk, which was then reduced to two shortlisted options for the committee to discuss.

Option one outlined is to provide two new culverts connecting the pills to the Docks and a new outfall sluice and option two involves natural flood management, upstream storage, and sluice operation changes.

The potential cost of new culverts starts at more than £10million.

“We need a stand-alone meeting on this subject because of the severity of the problem that affected the people in that area,” said Cllr Summons, adding that all relevant parties will be invited.

This will include local councillors, members of the public, a representative from Capita, the Port of Milford Haven, and cabinet members.
