Minister for Economy buoyed by unemployment rate in Wales falling to all time low

THE unemployment rate in Wales has fallen below 3 per cent, an all time low in unemployment since records began according to statistics released today, Tuesday (Feb 18).

Commenting on the latest Labour Market Statistics, the Minister for Economy, Transport and North Wales, Ken Skates, said:

“Statistics released today show record low unemployment figures in Wales of below 3 per cent. This is the lowest rate since records began almost 25 years ago and well below the UK figure, and with the employment rate in Wales also up on the quarter there is much to be proud of.

“As a Welsh Government we are working hard to drive prosperity and growth right across Wales. Recent interventions such as our £650,000 investment in Williams Medical Supplies, which will see 91 new jobs created in the Valleys, is yet another example of the proactive action we are taking to support business and create quality jobs opportunities in the hearts of our communities.”

Wales: The unemployment rate in Wales was 2.9%. This is 0.9 percentage points down on the quarter and 1.2 percentage points down on the year.

UK: The UK unemployment rate was 3.8%. This is 0.1 percentage points down on the quarter and 0.2 percentage points down on the year.
