Mid and West Wales Senedd Member Eluned Morgan has visited the multi-million pound Neyland Community Hub development which has transformed sports and community facilities in the mid Pembrokeshire Town.
The £2.9million Neyland Community Hub opened during the pandemic and is home to the town’s new library, town council offices and bar/restaurant as well as providing space for a variety of leisure and sports activities for residents and visitors.
During the visit arranged by Neyland West Councillor Paul Miller, Eluned Morgan, who is also the Minister for Health and Social Services, was briefed on ambitious plans to development health and care services to support the most vulnerable in the community.
With a growing elderly population and a shortage of care workers in Pembrokeshire, new opportunities are being considered to provide essential caring services on a not-for-profit basis.
Cllr Paul Miller said: “Many key areas of our economy are facing staff shortages at the current time. That pressure is being felt within the care sector too, with far too many people waiting for care packages at the present time. Through our new venture – Community Interest Care – I’m looking at a model in Neyland that will not only provide well paid carers jobs and care for local residents but also reinvests into our community. On top of that we’re working closely with Neyland Surgery, Hywel Dda University Health Board and Pembrokeshire Council on plans for investment in GPs Services and Extra Care Housing in the Town. I was pleased to be able to brief Eluned directly on those plans.”
