MERTHYR Tydfil businesses that don’t own a property or pay business rates but were affected by the most recent Coronavirus restrictions are now able to apply for grants.
Welsh Government’s Emergency Business Fund will support businesses in the leisure, tourism, retail, and hospitality sectors with a turnover of less than £85,000.
The Council is delivering the discretionary fund, making available grants of up to £2,000, via a short application process.
The funding will cover the period from 13 December 2021 to 14 February 2022 and apply to businesses that are not eligible for support from the recently announced Economic Resilience Fund.
The Council’s Cabinet Member for Governance and Resources Cllr Chris Davies said:
“The aim of this fund is to support smaller businesses with their immediate cash flow and help them survive the economic consequences of the restrictions introduced before Christmas.
“We know we have many supply chain businesses and freelancers working in the county borough who do not employ anyone apart from the owner and don’t have a property, running their business from home.
“They will still have been impacted by a loss of earnings and this money will go some way towards helping them recover financially.”
The grants are:
- A £1,000 payment for hospitality, tourism, retail, and related supply chain businesses which do not employ anyone apart from the owner, and do not have a property. This includes freelancers in the creative sector.
- A £2,000 payment for hospitality, tourism, retail, leisure, and related supply chain businesses that employ staff through PAYE (in addition to the owner).
