MP invites Labour’s Energy Secretary to Kidwelly to discuss ‘climate change’

LLANELLI’S MP Nia Griffith is bringing Labour’s energy spokesperson to the Llanelli constituency for a discussion about climate change, which is open to all residents in South and West Wales.

‘Powering the future: a discussion on renewable energy with Dr Alan Whitehead MP’ will take place from 3.30 till 5pm on Thursday 4th July at the Princess Gwenllian Centre in Kidwelly (SA17 4UL).

Nia Griffith MP explained, “The event will be an opportunity to hear about Labour’s radical plan to tackle the climate emergency and discuss big issues like how we can find a way forward for the Swansea tidal lagoon. But, more importantly, residents will have a chance to share their ambitions and ideas for cutting emissions with us and their neighbours, so we can confront the crisis together.

“I’m delighted that Dr Alan Whitehead MP has agreed to come to Kidwelly and speak to people from right across the area about how we can power our future with renewables. Alan has real knowledge of and commitment to renewables, and I know it will be an interesting discussion.

“It has been amazing to see the huge reawakening of interest in tackling climate change this year. Thanks to Extinction Rebellion protesters and inspiring campaigners like Greta Thunberg, the climate emergency is firmly back on the political agenda after years of neglect by the Tories in Westminster.

“In recent months, I’ve received many emails from constituents who are rightly angry about the shocking lack of progress in reducing our carbon emissions. Not only are people angry, but they are passionate about saving our planet and full of ideas for how we can do it.

“I’m hoping to bring as many people as I can together on 4th July to discuss what politicians should be doing and what we can do in our communities to save our planet.”
