MS backs mental health charity’s calls for clear plan on mental health services coming out of lockdown

PLAID Cymru’s Shadow Health Minister has backed a mental health charity’s calls for clear plan on mental health services coming out of lockdown.

Rhun ap Iorweth MS notes that lockdown will have created further mental health problems, intensifying the need for “immediate investment” in services and provision.

Plaid Cymru Shadow Health Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth MS said:

“Mental health services were already chronically underfunded before Coronavirus but the circumstances of the lockdown will have created new problems for some and exacerbated the suffering of others.

“Patients have been falling through the gaps. 1,694 patients discharged early in north Wales while they still needed support from mental health services was deeply distressing and should have been a real wake-up call for Labour Welsh Government and their approach to mental health provision in Wales.

“In the wake of the Coronavirus, we need to see immediate investment in rebuilding mental health services and provision.
