Mumbles lifeboat called to stricken yacht

THE Volunteer crew of the Mumbles All Weather lifeboat was called to the aid of a 32 ft ketch suffering from engine trouble which was being pushed onto the beach just in front of the Observatory.

The lifeboat launched just after 1825 following a request from the UK Coastguard at Milford Haven. The boat with 2 crew on board was taken in tow to Swansea Marina.

Lifeboat Operations manager at The Mumbles Tim Conway said ‘The skipper of the casualty vessel was incredibly experienced and knew exactly what to do which saved the boat from serious damage and the crew from harm. He dropped his anchor at the first sign of trouble and had all safety equipment required including a VHF radio to call for help and a good quality life jacket.
