Neil Hamilton calls on constituents to support National Love Lamb week

NEIL Hamilton, MS for Mid & West Wales, and Leader of UKIP Wales is calling on his constituents to support National Love Lamb week which runs September 1-7.

The campaign, which runs this week, aims to highlight the sustainable qualities lamb brings to the dinner table, emphasising lamb’s delicious flavour, environmental credentials and demonstrating how lamb can be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet.

Love Lamb Week started back in 2015 to promote and highlight the passion and dedication farmers give day after day to ensure we have the tastiest lamb on our plates. Over the years the spotlight has highlighted different aspects of sheep farming, and this year it is shining an energy-saving light on the sustainable qualities lamb brings to the dinner table.

Mr Hamilton said:

“As a keen consumer of Welsh lamb, I am delighted once again to back this industry-wide initiative. There are some delicious recipes out there for this tasty and nutritious meat so I urge everyone to be adventurous and give them a try.

“I have always supported Welsh farmers and the quality of the food they produce is unsurpassed.    I do urge people to buy their food locally and support local produce and local growers.

“It is a known fact that Welsh lamb is regarded as the best in the world and is exported worldwide. This week gives the industry the opportunity to highlight this delicious meat and encourage more people to buy lamb.”

Now in its sixth year, Love Lamb Week has grown to become an industry-wide initiative which the NFU has supported along with the National Sheep Association, NSA, AHDB, Red Tractor, the Ulster Farmers’ Union and meat promotion bodies, HCC in Wales, LMC in Northern Ireland and Quality Meat Scotland.

NFU livestock board chairman Richard Findlay said:

“British lamb has long been a favourite of many family mealtimes across the country, both in our own dining rooms and when eating out, and it is renowned around the world for its delicious flavour and climate-friendly production.

“Love Lamb Week is a chance for us all to celebrate and promote a fantastic product which not only delivers much-loved meals for the nation but also helps encourage biodiversity and shape our iconic landscape. So let’s get out there and show the public why they should champion British lamb, this week and every week.”
