Network Rail boss backs Goods Shed 

EARLIER this month, the route managing director for Network Rail Wales & Borders, Bill Kelly, visited the Llanelli Railway Goods Shed and met trustees of the project to bring it back into community use.

The historic goods shed building, which is on Marsh Street, is currently owned by Network Rail. Mr Kelly was enthusiastic about the opportunities the site offered as a community hub and keen to hear about the work being done to facilitate the transfer of the building to the Trust.

He was impressed with the efforts of the Llanelli Railway Goods Shed Trust and said that Network Rail was fully committed to supporting projects that benefited the community, especially where an historically significant building is being brought back to life.

Bill Kelly said, “It is vital we create strong links with the communities we serve in order to support social and economic development.

“I’m delighted to see the community so keen to play an active role in preserving this iconic building for future generations to be able to enjoy.

“I very much welcome the hard work and dedication of the Llanelli Railway Goods Shed Trust and will make sure we do our bit to help the successful delivery of the project.”

Nia Griffith MP, Chair of the Trust, added, “It was great to meet Bill and see his enthusiasm for the plans to renovate the Goods Shed and turn it into a vibrant community hub.

“I look forward our continued work with Network Rail to get the building transferred to the Trust. Together I know we can develop this historic building into a space that locals and visitors can visit to enjoy themselves and learn about our heritage.”
