Local & National News for Wales

THE Welsh Government have approved the full business case for the new Tredegar Health & Wellbeing Centre development.

This is very exciting news for both the community and Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. Enabling works are now on-site and the construction of the new facility is planned to start in spring 2021. The Centre is being built on the former Tredegar Hospital site.

The Health & Wellbeing Centre will house two existing GP Practices working independently; Tredegar Health Centre and Glan-yr-Afon Surgery. The centre will bring a range of services for patients together in one place, including General Medical Services Community Pharmacy and Community Dentistry, Community Services, Social Care and Third Sector Partners. This development is a fundamental element of the model of the clinical future within the Blaenau Gwent Borough, helping the Health Board deliver a wide range of services closer to home for the local community.

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board will be working closely with local residents, as well as ensuring that the legacy of the former Tredegar Hospital is represented in the new building.

Judith Paget, Chief Executive of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, said:

“We are very pleased that the Welsh Government has approved the new Tredegar Health and Well-being Centre, which is a perfect example of our ambitions for the transformation of health care delivery across the Health Board area.

“Our ongoing Clinical Futures programme commits us to move care closer to people’s homes and this new centre in Tredegar enable patients to access a wide range of health and social care services under one roof in the heart of their own community.”

Health and Social Services Minister Vaughan Gething said:

“Our £19m investment will help improve access to a range of healthcare services closer to home for people living in Tredegar. The new fit for purpose Tredegar Health and Wellbeing Centre will help to ensure that Aneurin Bevan University Health Board continues to support its residents for years to come.”
