A NEW Co-op food store is coming to Burry Port.

The retailer has been given planning approval for a new shop to replace its smaller one on nearby Station Road.

The existing store was said to be cramped and had difficulties with deliveries.

Co-op said the new one, on a parcel of land between the railway line and Seaview Terrace, will have a better range of products.

Staff from the current Station Road shop will be redeployed there.
Once completed, the new store will be open from 6am to 11pm on Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays. It will have seven parking spaces, and is expected to cost around £700,000.

Carmarthenshire Council planning officers have imposed 16 conditions with the consent, including that work must be halted if previously unidentified contamination is found at the site.

Network Rail raised drainage concerns about the scheme last October, and asked to see details of how surface water would be dealt with.

Council planning officers said drainage had been fully investigated, and therefore complied with planning policy.
