New shielding advice ‘long overdue’ says Leanne Wood

REACTING to the news that people who are clinically vulnerable have been advised to stay at home, Rhondda MS Leanne Wood said: “I welcome the decision of the Labour Government to return to the advice they had during the first lockdown for the clinically vulnerable.

“I have been calling for this for some weeks and the delays in giving this advice were looking increasingly hard to justify by the First Minister and the Health Minister. This was particularly the case after it was revealed the new, more infectious variant of coronavirus was in circulation in Wales.

“I have had people in the Rhondda Cynon Taf tell me they were put in a terrible position of having to choose between risking their lives in work or staying at home and facing poverty because they had no right to stay at home.

“I hope this new advice, which is only in line with the guidelines that England have issued, will bring some peace and comfort to those people who have been placed in a terrible dilemma.”
