Local & National News for Wales

CAERPHILLY and Blaenau Gwent’s County Borough Councils Cwm a Mynydd Rural Development Programme team have launched a new website, Our Pantry Online, for local rural business in Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent County Borough to showcase their produce and make it easier for them to sell their goods online..

Two of the businesses to feature on this website are award-winning cider makers, Hallett’s and Williams Brothers.

Annie and Andy Hallett have been making cider on their family farm since 2006. They have won many awards over the years and are happy to receive visitors to the farm. They also have holiday accommodation which can be booked through AirBnB.

Armed with a small basket press the Williams Brothers started making craft cider in 2009 for their own enjoyment and fun. Gradually they increased their volumes year on year, with a wide range of cider apple varieties, and experimented with blends. They have been lucky enough to win a few awards along the way.

Cwm a Mynydd has received funding through the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government.  Our Pantry Online website is funded through the Geographical Data and Earth Observation for Monitoring (GEOM) project led by Aberystwyth University.  The GEOM scheme has been part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government

Hallett’s said that they are delighted to be part of this new project with Annie saying,

“Caerphilly County Borough Council has been very supportive to us over the years and we are very pleased to be part of this new initiative. We believe it will help promote us as a supplier to the food and drink industry, as a visitor and holiday destination and make a difference to the growth of our business and contribution to the local economy.”

Richard Williams of Williams Brothers said;

“We at Williams Brothers Cider are delighted to be part of this fantastic initiative which will help reduce the impact we all have on the environment by shopping locally, as well as boosting the local economy with the supply of high-quality local produce for our community to enjoy”
