New website seeks input on your favourite walks

A new rail network website focused on South West Wales is asking local people to share their favourite walks in the region.

The South West Wales Connected Community Rail Partnership website has been set up to share inspiration, news and travel ideas from the communities covered by the South West Wales rail network.

It contains information on all the places you can visit by rail in the region, news on businesses and community initiatives in the region and ideas for outings and activities.

One area of focus is hyper-local walks: these are short walks that are close to home; they could be your favourite route to the park, a walk to get ice cream, a wander round the local park or a walk to a playground with the kids.

Locals across the region are being urged to submit their walks by emailing them to organiser Jennifer Barfoot at jennifer@southwestwales.co along with a few pictures and directions.

The South West Wales Connected Community Rail Partnership is also collaborating with Ramblers Cymru to build up its collection of walks. Members of Ramblers Cymru have devised and route-checked a number of walks especially for the website.

Oliver Wicks of Ramblers Cymru explained:

“We believe in putting walking at the heart of communities and our work alongside SSW Connected is giving us another opportunity to put this into practice.

“By tapping into the knowledge and expertise of our local volunteers we’re hoping to help make a family day out on the train that little bit more special by showcasing some of the amazing community walking environments West Wales has to offer.

“We hope this project encourages people to explore this beautiful part of Wales and make more use of our sustainable transport network.”

Jennifer Barfoot added:

“Our new website is all about inspiring people who live in the region covered by the South West Wales rail network, and we’re aware that during lockdown more people than ever have been enjoying local walks. We want to collect these on our website so that others can enjoy them too. All you need to do is send directions, photos and a bit about why you like the walk, and we’ll do the rest. We’re also delighted to be collaborating with Ramblers Cymru and their community of walkers on this project; we know they will provide some wonderful walks to inspire people in the region.”
