STAFF at Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth have thanked the public for supporting their local NHS charity after they received a donation of equipment to improve the experience of patients on Dyfi Ward. The AccuVein scanner cost over £3,895 and is designed to allow staff to easily identify veins to help with blood taking and cannulation, this reduces the risk of repeated attempts to take blood, making the process easier for staff and more comfortable for patients.
Dyfi Ward provides care for respiratory and cardiology patients. Many of the patients of Dyfi Ward have complex conditions which require blood to be taken every day and the new equipment means more staff are able to take bloods, freeing up doctors to perform other duties.
Sharon Rickard (pictured) is a Clinical Site Manager at Bronglais. She said “We are very grateful for receiving the AccuVein through Hywel Dda Health Charities. By having the AccuVein for the Clinical Site Team, will enable us to ensure that Intravenous access can be sited in a timely manner, so that patients can receive their treatment accordingly without further delays. The AccuVein will also be of great assistance during any medical emergency.”
The equipment was funded by Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official NHS charity for Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire. The charity funding doesn’t replace NHS funding but is used to provide services and activities above and beyond core NHS expenditure.
