THE potential to increase the value of a former school site by gaining planning permission before market is to be explored, the member of the Ceredigion County Council’s charity trust decided.
The Charity Trust Committee had been recommended to agree the marketing for sale of the former Tregaron school building following a resolution from the Charity Commission regarding the scheme.
At its meeting on October 15 the committee were told that a valuation of £160,000 had been put on the site by the District Valuer working on a hypothetical 12 units on site.
Pre application advice sought by the charity trust worked on the provision of five units.
Cllr Mark Strong said he was “amazed that the price expected for it is so low” with he, and local member Cllr Keith Evans asking for planning approval for a development to be sought before market instead.
Another local member Cllr Catherine Hughes asked that consideration be made of the current state of the site, with improvements needed before next year’s Eisteddfod in the town.
It was agreed to set up a sub-group to look at a potential planning application before asking the council’s estates department to market the property.
