One month to go until Welsh Labour Government’s cheaper rail fares begin

RAIL passengers across Wales are set to see a reduction in many fares across the Transport for Wales rail network from 2 January 2020, thanks to the Welsh Labour Government.

Changes being implemented by the Welsh Labour Government’s wholly-owned, not-for-profit company Transport for Wales include free travel for under 11-year-olds, half-price travel for 16-18 year-olds as well as reduced fares to and from north Wales and on the Valley Lines. Where ticket prices increase, this will be consistent with changes being made by the UK Government in other parts of the UK.

Welsh Labour’s Transport Minister Ken Skates said:
“I’m proud that our Welsh Labour Government is already taking steps to introduce fare reductions on the Wales and borders network, including introducing half-price fares for 16-18 year olds as well as allowing children up to 11 years of age to travel completely free. We’re also reducing the price of fares in areas such as North Wales and on the Valleys lines.

“This Welsh Labour Government is investing £5bn in Wales’ new rail service including £800 million on new trains; nearly £200 million on stations as well as taking forward Metro projects in South Wales, North Wales and Swansea Bay.

“Just imagine how much more we could achieve for Wales by working with a UK Labour Government who share our passion for making rail travel cheaper, faster and more frequent.”
