Operation Timmia – Further gang member jailed

ONE of the ringleaders of an organised crime gang who carried out more than 80 burglaries across south Wales has been jailed for more than six years today.

Daniel Casey was arrested by colleagues from Leicestershire Police in January following a lengthy manhunt by South Wales Police’s Operation Timmia team.

Casey, 19, is the latest member of the gang to be sentenced – in December seven people were jailed for a total of more than 35 years.

Casey pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit burglary at Swansea Crown Court, and was today sentenced to six years and nine months in prison.

Detective Sergeant John Adams, officer in the case, said: “Operation Timmia has been a lengthy and complex investigation and we are extremely grateful to the members of the public who came forward with information, and to our colleagues in a number of other forces across the UK who have assisted with the investigation and the arrests of some of the suspects.

“Daniel Casey remained at large for some time, and I am pleased he is now behind bars where he belongs, and where he is unable to prey on vulnerable victims.

“There are still two suspects outstanding in this case, and South Wales Police remains committed to locating and bringing to justice each and every one of those involved in this conspiracy.”

The Crimestoppers charity is offering a rewards of up to £3,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Michael Casey, 19, and Wayne Harty, 18 (both pictured).
The reward will only qualify for information passed to Crimestoppers’ 0800 555 111 number or via the non-traceable anonymous online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org
Alternatively anyone with information on their whereabouts can speak to police directly on 101, or 999 in an emergency, quoting ‘Operation Timmia’ or occurrence number 1800300011.
