THE SEASIDE village of Llansteffan will celebrate the memory of one of Wales’s most significant contemporary artists on the 28th of June.

Osi Rhys Osmond, who lived in the village for 30 years before his death in 2015, was an internationally known artist, broadcaster, teacher and author. An Honorary member of the Gorsedd of Bards, one of his paintings was given as a gift from Wales to the Flemish parliament. Osi was an inspirational man who enthused all who met him with his energy and his love for individual human endeavour and achievement.

An Art Competition has been arranged in conjunction with the Carmarthen College of Art, open to all current students. The intention is to cultivate arts and culture in the village while providing an opportunity for young people setting out on their lives to have their work appreciated by a wider public.

The competition will be for a painting or drawing on the theme “Y Filltir Sgwâr” (Your own patch), a theme dear to Osi’s heart.

The winner will be announced at a function on Friday 28th June in Llansteffan Memorial Hall. The shortlisted work will remain on display for a further five weeks at Oriel Osi on The Square in Llansteffan.

This event is sure to have a lasting impact on the lives of the competition’s young participants and help to strengthen the village as a hub for arts and culture.
