Over 450 sixth formers at Olchfa school sent home to self isolate for two weeks

OVER 450 sixth formers, as well as teaching staff, at one of Wales’ biggest schools, have been sent home to self-isolate for two weeks after a pupil tested positive for coronavirus.

Headteacher Hugh Davies in a letter to parents has said that all other pupils at Olchfa school may still attend but they should continue to keep an eye on their children as a precaution, be alert to any symptoms of Covid-19 and should self isolate if they develop symptoms.

Swansea Council said that the authority was working with Public Health Wales and NHS Wales’ Test Trace and Protect service to ensure appropriate measures were in place to protect students, staff and the wider community.

It is estimated that to date over fifty schools across Wales have reported Covid-19 incidents, including all year seven children in two Newport secondary schools, two hundred pupils at Bryntirion Comprehensive Bridgend and pupils at Whitchurch High school.
