THE Pembrey and Burry Port Heritage Group last week installed its fourth blue plaque on the Pembrey Country Inn in Randell Square, Pembrey.
It commemorates one of the previous owners of the Inn who gave the square its name. Francis Randell (1800 – 1870) was the publican of what was then ‘The Commercial Arms’.
He was a master mariner, shipbuilder and pilot. One of his descendants, David Randell was present at the ceremony. A brief overview of the Randell family was given by Fay Hampson, one of the members of the Heritage Group.
The Heritage Group has previously erected blue plaques of industrialist George Bowser, life-saver Jack Mariti, and Copperworks owner Josiah Mason. The group has a planned programme of 12 blue plaques including the next to be installed: Captain John Wedge of Plas Gwdig, and the Canary Girls of the Ordnance Factory in Pembrey.
Graham Davies, Coordinator of the Heritage Group, commented: “We are delighted to add this plaque to our programme which honours an important figure in the maritime heritage of Pembrey.”
