Penarth lifeboats respond to submerged car

AT the request of Milford Haven Coastguards both Penarth RNLI lifeboats quickly made their way through the waters of the River Taff to get to the very centre of the city of Cardiff.

This followed reports of a submerged, upturned vehicle being spotted near Sofia Gardens. This was a multi-agency incident including Penarth Coastguard rescue team and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

The lifeboats searched the area and provided cover for those investigating the vehicle in the water. It was later established that the vehicle was unoccupied and the lifeboats were stood down. Penarth RNLI volunteer crew returned to the lifeboat station and the lifeboats were back on service after washing and refuelling the lifeboats.
