Swansea Bay University Health Board’s latest performance data showed it was meeting internal reduction targets for hospital-acquired infections.
The number of in-patients falls in June was less than 200 for the first time in a year and the 10,344 accident and emergency attendances was 5% lower than in May.
However 644 patients spent more than 12 hours in accident and emergency – from arrival to transfer or discharge – compared to 311 the previous June.
Among those waiting for operations 2,318 had been waiting for more than 36 weeks in June – a 10% rise from May.
The health board covers Swansea and Neath Port Talbot and employs around 12,500 staff. There are around 640 vacancies – and proposals to recruit nurses from India and Dubai.
