Plaid Cymru’s Mari Arthur ready to fight for Llanelli’s seat at Westminster

WITH the increasing likelihood of a snap Westminster election, Plaid Cymru Llanelli is continuing its hard work throughout the constituency.

The party has once again selected Mari Arthur as its Westminster candidate, in the hope of gaining its first Member of Parliament for Llanelli.

Plaid Cymru has for some time been the main challenger to Labour’s dominance in Llanelli. Despite a slight drop in support in 2017, Plaid has held the Llanelli seat twice at an Assembly level and was only around 300 votes away from beating Labour in 2016.

With the current political turmoil surrounding Brexit, and a drop in support for Labour and the Conservatives in the opinion polls, Plaid hopes it can snatch the Llanelli Westminster seat at the next election.

Westminster candidate Mari Arthur said: “Plaid Cymru Llanelli is ready to fight a snap election and will be speaking to as many people across the constituency as possible.

“There is no reason why Plaid Cymru cannot win in Llanelli. We have done it in the Assembly and we can have come close at the Westminster level too.

“The politics of the old is fast disappearing. The two main parties are in a state of chaos and the opinion polls are showing that.

“While the two main parties are in decline, Plaid Cymru is on the rise.

“If a snap election is called, anything can happen. After an impressive European election in May, we know we can challenge in constituencies across Wales.

“Llanelli will be one of our main target seats in a snap election and it is a seat we believe we can win. There is a lot of work to do and a lot of people to speak to.

“We know what we need to do and we are ready for the challenge. I’m looking forward to an election and I believe I can be the next MP for Llanelli.
