PERMISSION for two new houses in Llanrhystud was granted with councillors accepting flooding issues were mitigated despite NRW objections.

The plan for two open market dwellings had been deferred from January’s committee where members wanted to allow the application if Natural Resources Wales accepted a flood report prepared by the applicant.

However, the NRW objections remained, with concerns raised about the curtilage being within a C2 flood zone.

At Wednesday’s development control committee councillors decided that the houses themselves were not within the C2 zone and local member Rowland Rees-Evans added that NRW should update “out of date” maps not developers.

“The only part of the development in C2 is the bottom part right by the river, the houses have been moved back again so they’re nowhere near any risk area,” he said.

The houses will be built on a site between the A487 trunk road and the river Wyre.

The committee approved the application and said the applicant had mitigated flooding issues and if the NRW needed to call it in, it could do so.
