PLANS to convert a disused former supplies store previously earmarked for demolition will be turned into shops, eateries and homes.
An application to convert the former Master Decorators Supplies store along City Road, Cardiff into a mixed use development has been approved by Cardiff Council.
The building, which has been part of City Road’s commercial scene for years, looked set for demolition after an application to build 14 flats there was approved in 2007.
However, the permission lapsed and new owners took over the building after four years of vacancy.
A design statement attached to the planning application states:
“A range of possible options were examined, geared towards an eventual return to
a sustainable commercial and residential use.
“The Applicants vision is to preserve a valued element in the urban landscape for the long term, whilst providing a viable economic return,
thereby protecting the future of the building through regeneration.”
The businesses that will form the retail element of the development will be confirmed once the units have been let.
The plan is for there to be a mix of retail use on the top and bottom floor of the building.
The residential aspect of the development will be formed of six units, with five single bedroom flats being earmarked for the top floor.
