Police and Crime Commissioner’s St. David’s Victims’ Conference a Success

THOUSANDS have viewed the live broadcast of Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner’s Victims’ Conference.

On Friday 5 March 2021, Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn hosted his fifth annual St. David’s Conference, where the focus was on victims and victim services.
Mr Llywelyn’s previous St David’s Conferences have been held at Dyfed-Powys Police Headquarters in Carmarthen, with a focus on coercive control (2017), mental health in policing (2018), cyber-crime (2019), and rural crime (2020).
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the 2021 St. David’s Conference Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the 2021 St. David’s Conference was moved online; streamed live on Facebook and YouTube. This meant that the Commissioner’s Conference was more accessible to all, resulting in a wider range of individuals and organisations being able to join and engage on a platform where key issues relating to victims and victim services were discussed.
The Conference was broadcast live at www.facebook.com/DPOPCC, and each of the five sessions are still available to view.
Police and Crime Commissioner, Dafydd Llywelyn said: “The day itself was a big success. Thank you to all who took part and to my team who worked behind the scenes to ensure the smooth running of the event.

It is vital that victims know what information and support is available to them, and my Conference was an opportunity to promote support services, and to hear from professionals working in this area.

It was a privilege to welcome the Victims’ Commissioner, Dame Vera Baird and my other guest speakers. We had some very important discussions, highlighting key issues around victim services.”

Alongside the Victims’ Commissioner, Mr Llywelyn welcomed representatives from Dewis Choice, Emma Ackland – Temporary Deputy Chief Constable at Dyfed-Powys Police, Hugh Simkiss – Head of Crime at HMCTS Wales, and Anne Campbell of Embrace Child Victims, as his guest speakers.
Mr Llywelyn adds: “I am delighted to report that the live broadcast of my Victims’ Conference has now had almost 10,000 views. Thank you to everyone who joined on the day and who have since accessed the videos. Diolch.”
