Police appeal for motorist who fled scene of serious road traffic collision to come forward

SOUTH Wales Police is appealing for the driver of a car who fled the scene of a road traffic collision to come forward.

In their appeal South Wales Police said:

“As the driver of this car faces spending Christmas in hospital, South Wales Police is appealing to a motorist who fled the scene of the collision, to do the right thing and come forward.

“Officers were called to a serious, three-vehicle collision on the B4265 near Fonmon in the Vale of Glamorgan, at approximately 4.40pm on Friday, December 6.

“The owner of this grey VW Polo sustained serious injuries. The father-of-one will now spend Christmas at the University Hospital of Wales, where he continues to undergo surgery .

“Two other vehicles were involved in the collision – a red Audi A1, and a white Ford Fiesta.

“The occupant of the Fiesta fled the scene prior to the arrival of the emergency services.

“A number of enquiries are underway to identify and trace everyone involved in the collision.”

Detective Sergeant Huw O’Connell, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “It’s exactly two weeks to the day since the collision, and I want to appeal directly to the driver of the Ford Fiesta to do the right thing and come forward.

“To leave the scene of an accident, especially when someone is seriously injured, is a particularly callous thing to do, and I would urge that individual to hand themselves in to explain their actions.

“The events of that evening must be weighing heavily on their conscience and it is only a matter of time before we catch up with them.”

DS O’Connell also appealed to the public to keep coming forward with information.

He added: “I would like to thank those who have already contacted us to provide information, and I would urge anyone who has information they believe could assist to do the same.

“In particular, I’d like information on the person who was driving the white Ford Fiesta, registration ST11 KUX, at the time of the collision. I’d also like to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam or mobile phone footage showing the collision or the moments prior to and after it.

“My team will continue to work tirelessly to investigate this collision, and to ensure justice for those affected.”

Anyone with information or footage should call 101, quoting reference 1900449617. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
