Police appeal for witnesses following serious road traffic collision in Cardiff

SOUTH WALES Police is appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision that occurred at Callaghan Square, Cardiff, yesterday (Thursday, May 21).

At approximately midday, a white Citroen DS3 was in collision with a black Mercedes E220 at the junction of Callaghan Square and Bute Street.

One of the occupants of the Mercedes, an 87-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the University Hospital of Wales where he currently remains.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

A second man, aged 29, was also arrested on suspicion of the same offences and has been released under investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or the manner in which either vehicle was being driven prior to it, is asked to make contact with police. Officers would also like to hear from anyone who may have dash cam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage which may assist the investigation.
