Police Officer Injured in Alleged Carmarthen Hit and Run

A constable from Dyfed-Powys Police has been hit by a car during a foot chase in Carmarthen, last week.

The officer was responding to reports of a road traffic collision at Priory Street, on Friday, December 13, when the incident occurred.

It’s alleged the driver fled the crashed car on foot, then got back behind the wheel and drove away, hitting the officer in the process. Thankfully he was not seriously injured.

Police pursued the car around Carmarthen and brought it to a safe stop after a short time. A man was arrested and taken to hospital, on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

Temporary Inspector of Specialist Operations, Andy Williams, said: “This incident could have been much more serious, and it is only luck that this officer wasn’t more badly hurt, and that no members of the public were harmed.

“I’d like to praise the officers who brought this incident to a safe conclusion. We are providing support to the injured PC, who has since returned to duty.”

Thomas Stephen Williams, aged 28, of Bancyfelin, Carmarthen, has been charged with assaulting a police officer, dangerous driving, driving other than in accordance with a licence, driving without insurance, and aggravated vehicle taking, in connection to the incident.
