VAUGHAN Gething MS, Minister for Economy has announced the publication of the new three-nation National Occupational Standards (NOS) Strategy for 2022 and beyond.

The Minister said:

“Skills have never been more important. As some industries struggle to recruit, we must ensure we give everyone the opportunity to get into a job but also through lifelong learning, progress once in employment.

National Occupational Standards (NOS) are the foundation to qualifications, learning and training which will ensure industry gets the skills it needs, and individuals get the careers they want. And because NOS are recognised across the UK, people will be able to move easily and transfer their skills to new jobs, to meet the needs of employers and the ambition of individuals.

UK-wide NOS are supported and enabled by the strategic alliance and financial investment between the governments of Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. Collectively funding and supporting NOS demonstrates the common efficiencies and provides the most cost-effective method of underpinning the respective skills and apprenticeships systems. The sharing of expertise and knowledge across the devolved governments is an excellent example of cross-government collaboration.

The new NOS strategy sets out our joint ambition to achieve all this and cements the important role of NOS in the skills system.”
