RNLI Moelfre evacuate woman following fall on footpath

RNLI Moelfre’s lifeboat coxswain was alerted by volunteers at the RNLI Seawatch Centre that a lady had fallen over on the coastal path and had sustained a deep cut and an ankle injury that needed medical assistance.The station’s coxswain and mechanic, who are casualty-care trained, left the station on foot around 2 pm today (13/09/2021) equipped with the station first aid kit. They located the casualty, her partner and dog on a bench on the headland near Porth Nigwl. They had called 999 and were awaiting an ambulance.

The lady had fallen on uneven ground and had a suspected sprained/ fractured ankle and a nasty 4″ cut to the bone beneath her knee. The lady was in a lot of pain and felt faint. After an initial medical assessment, the RNLI crew stabilised the ankle, dressed the wound and administered pain relief. However, it soon became apparent that an ambulance wasn’t available to attend, so the Moelfre coastguard team was requested and paged by Holyhead Coastguard. The coastguard team members assisted in transferring the casualty onto a stretcher and then carried her to the main road. Her partner could then take her in their car direct to A&E at Bangor.
