RSPCA Cymru issue appeal for information after two suspected reports of cat cruelty in Penarth

RSPCA Cymru is appealing for information after two cats were suspiciously injured – leading to their deaths – in Penarth.

One cat was sadly found dead and with its tail cut off in Castle Avenue. The cat had not returned home and was found in a neighbours garden. A few days later the owner found a third of the tail on her driveway.

The second incident occurred in the Redland Road area – where a cat returned home injured and in a collapsed state. The cat had not been home the previous night and was immediately taken to the vet.

Tragically the cat was put to sleep on the vet’s advice due to catastrophic injuries – which appeared to be suspicious.

South Wales Police were contacted in regards to both incidents – which both occurred on the same day 18 October – and subsequently called the RSPCA for assistance.

RSPCA inspector Gemma Black said: “These are both such tragic and upsetting incidents and our hearts go out to the cats’ owners.

“Both of these cats have lost their lives in such a heartbreaking way – and the fact they seem to be suspicious is very concerning to us.

“As there have been no witnesses we don’t know exactly what has happened – and there could potentially be an explanation for both incidents.

“However, the vet in the second case did conclude that the cat appeared to have received blunt force trauma to the bottom of its stomach and believed that it couldn’t have been caused by a car due to the location of injuries and lack of external injuries.

“We would urge anyone to contact us if they know anything about these incidents.”
