School children make Rainbow Dash for charity cash

AN explosion of colour filled the air as more than 700 children in Carmarthen and Ammanford took part in the first Rainbow Dash for schools.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Active Young People Team teamed up with Welsh children’s charity,Ty Hafan, to launch a first of its kind schools event and raise vital funds for children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

Pupils from Queen Elizabeth High School, Canolfan Elfed, Ysgol Dyffryn Taf and Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn were all showered with powder paint as they ran, jogged and walked the 3km route along Carmarthen Leisure Centre fields in Johnstown.

This event follows on from the popular Ty Hafan’s Rainbow Races which have been held across Wales over the last few years.

The council’s executive board member for Culture, Sport and Tourism, Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths said: “We were thrilled to be part of this especially as it’s the first of its kind to be held in Wales. It was fun, active and a great opportunity to raise funds towards providing care and support for life-limited children, young people and their families.”
