MID and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service have been tackling another fire in the Pembrey Country Park area today, Saturday (May 30).

It is the second day large plumes of smoke have been seen over the Pembrey forestry area.

Former press officer with Carmarthenshire County Council was out walking his dog and told us that the plumes of smoke were rising many hundreds of feet into the air.

Our photographer Peter Tully was at the scene and described seeing several fire tenders in attendance as well as a helicopter circling the scene. Peter said that the fire had taken hold quite badly burning grass and trees within the forestry area and he said a strong wind was pushing the flames towards the beach.

Pembrey forest of 2800 acres is owned and managed by Natural Resources Wales (NRW.

Pembrey conservation trust volunteers support the management and maintenance  of the 35km of access and valuable habitats found within the woodlands in partnership with NRW.

Peter was approached by a national newspaper who offered to take these wonderful photos off his hands for free. Happy to say he declined.
