SirGâredig vans hit the highway to help those in need

A FLEET of Carmarthenshire County Council vans are clocking up the miles delivering food parcels to people in need of support.

Staff who usually work on regeneration projects, planning, employment support and more have swapped their usual daily activities to help colleagues on the frontline respond to the Coronavirus pandemic.

They’ve been hitting the highways in a fleet of specially branded SirGâredig vans.

SirGâredig is the county council’s kindness campaign – it puts together the Welsh words for Carmarthenshire (Sir Gâr) with the word for kindness (Caredig) and helps share the positive actions going on in our communities.

Food parcels are being delivered to households that are eligible for support because they are shielding due to health conditions.

Cllr Cefin Campbell, Executive Board Member for communities, said: “We have a dedicated team of staff that have come together from all areas of the council to support those in need in our communities.

“In partnership with Castell Howell, we have put together food parcels for those who are not able to go out shopping and do not have the support of family and friends.

“Some of our vans have been re-branded to help promote our SirGâredig campaign, and they’re crossing the county from Llanelli to Llandovery, Whitland to Wernddu.

“We’re so pleased to be able to do something to help, and encourage anyone who is in need of support to get in touch to see how we may be able to assist.”

SirGâredig – Sharing Carmarthenshire’s Kindness connects people in need, with those that can help and provides a focal point for community activities.
