Six new industrial units in Glanamman part of £2.5m investment

SIX new industrial units have been completed as part of a £2.5 million investment by Carmarthenshire County Council in Glanamman. The former empty workshops site at Tabernacle Road has been transformed and brought back into use as part of a second phase after the council set aside the money from its Five-Year Capital Works Programme in 2017.

Phase one was completed in 2018 with 13 units transformed and filled with businesses ranging from fencing and decking, manufacturing of fishing equipment, restoration and repair of furniture, wood-burning and stove supply to repairing catering and ice-cream equipment.

The new steel constructed workshops are for business, general industrial, storage or distribution use and, once completed, are
expected to accommodate six small businesses with an additional 15-20 jobs.

They have toilet and kitchen facilities, roller shutter doors, and roof-mounted solar PV panels, and range from 48 square metres
(approximately 500 square feet) to 94 square metres (approx 1000 sqft).

They are offered on flexible monthly lease terms, aimed at B1, B2 and B8 uses and intended to help meet the very high demand for industrial space currently in the county.

Cabinet Member for Carmarthenshire County Council Resources, Cllr David
Jenkins, said:

“The latest upgraded workshops will not only encourage more job creation but will increase supply of industrial units to meet
the demand in the area. Already 13 units are successfully operating as businesses following our Phase one works and were let very quickly, so we are delighted that we are able to offer a further additional six units. They will undoubtedly provide jobs and provide great opportunities for people looking to set up their business in Carmarthenshire and beyond.”

The council holds a large portfolio of industrial and office property and demand levels are currently at their highest for many years.
