THE Winter drink drug drive campaign launching on social media on Wednesday (Dec 11) shows footage of real incidents with key words to tell the journey of the impact drink or drug driving had.
Last year saw over 3,500 drink drive tests administered across South Wales resulting in 179 arrests, and 141 drug wipes with 65 arrests. Intelligence suggests that driversaged between 17-25 are involved in a disproportionate number of drink drug drive offences.
The force will be carrying out targeted operational activity from (Dec 18) 2019 – (Jan 1) 2020 providing an increased police presence throughout South Wales.
Assistant Chief Constable Andy Valentine said: “Drink or drug driving is completely unacceptable at any time, and catching motorists who are prepared to take such a risk continues to be a priority for us.”
“In recent years the number of drivers choosing to use illegal substances and drive has been increasing. With new technology available, we are able to detect drivers driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs far easier than ever before.
“The message is clear – don’t drink or drug drive. If someone decides to drive while under the influence of drink or drugs, they should expect to be caught.”
