Sports Association targets ‘Grass Roots’ sport for community at official launch

THE Llangennech and Bryn Sports Association (LBSA) will hold a launch event at Llangennech Rugby Club this Saturday, (May 4).

The event will include an introduction to the organisation as well as live music from South Wales-based band “Double or Nothing” and a raffle.

The LBSA are a charitable organisation with an interest in exploring opportunities in developing grass roots sport and well-being facilities for community use. The aim of the LBSA is to bring together and improve relations among different sports, education and social organisations within the Llangennech and Bryn community; promoting participation in recreational activities, mutual support and joint aid among their members.

The group has diverse membership from contributors across the community. They will serve to seek potential opportunities to improve the facilities of the under-utilised spaces available to the community.

Projects include two areas of land within the boundaries of the recreation ground, plus to redirect a footpath in order to make more use of the grounds at Brynhyfryd park as a playing field for children. These shall be funded through both community fundraising events and via applications for available grants. As well as improve facilities, the projects are aimed to help encourage participation in sport as well as health and well-being activities.

LBSA Chairman Phil Willock said: “Since our formation in 2018 we have been hard at work putting things in place to establish ourselves as a community interest group with the credibility to be the driving force behind exploring new developments within the Llangennech and Bryn area to benefit the entire community. We have looked into 4 projects that have already been surveyed.

“The launch event on May 4th is an opportunity for us to introduce ourselves to the wider public and also to begin to build a network of support in order to help fundraise and show the relevant authorities that these projects are appealing to the whole community.”

Raffle prizes have been donated by local businesses including Personal Training sessions (Conquer Fitness), Gym Passes (RD Fitness), Sports Massage Therapy Sessions (Cwtch Tawel), Free Child’s daypass at Football Camp & £25 Sports Shop Voucher (Street Star Soccer).

Doors open 7pm, tickets are £5, and can be bought at the club prior or pay on the door. For more information, or to get involved with the projects please visit www.llanbrynsports.org.
