Support for laid off workers at Llanelli’s WRW called for by MS and MP

ONE of Wales’ leading construction firms has announced it is going into administration.

WRW Construction, based in Llanelli, said it had come under “significant financial stress”.

In a statement, the company said: “Directors have worked tirelessly with their advisors and funders to look for solutions for the business to remain viable.”

With a turnover of £64.2m in its last financial year, it is reported to be the largest construction firm to go under in the last 16 months.
WRW has a string of contracts across the UK public and private sector clients. The business also supports companies and hundreds of jobs in the supply chain.

Reacting to the news, Lee Waters MS said:
“I’m desperately sorry to see the end of this family firm that had grown to become one of the major players in Welsh construction. I’ve been in touch with the team through the last year and know of the great efforts they’ve made to turn things around during the biggest recession we have ever seen. Sadly it was not possible. My thoughts are with the 70 or staff and I’m in touch with the Minister for the Economy to make sure support is available to help them find other work.”

Nia Griffith MP said:
“This is devastating news about WRW, such a well-known local firm and I am very concerned for all the staff and their families. It is traumatic news for them, and I know that Lee will get them whatever support is available from Welsh Government.”
