Swansea council summer reading challenge extended

YOUNG people across Swansea have still got time to dive into a book and join in the city libraries’ annual Summer Reading Challenge.

Due to the pandemic, the gauntlet for this year’s event has been thrown down online and lots of young people have been joining in the fun.

The ‘Silly Squad’ challenge has been up and running through the summer holidays featuring books that are game for a laugh, happiness and fun and it’s been extended to September 30 so more can join in.

Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration and Tourism, said:

“Although the new term starts on September 1, the Summer Reading Challenge is going on to the end of the month to encourage more young people to get involved.

“Those joining in will find games, quizzes and other silly stuff plus they’ll be able to order a bunch of books that our librarians will put in a bag to keep.”

Children taking part in the Challenge will join the Silly Squad, an adventurous team of animals who love to have a laugh and get stuck into all sorts of funny books. The website is free to access and you will find games, quizzes and downloadable activities that help you find the challenge fun.

To help with the Challenge just book an appointment here https://www.swansea.gov.uk/orderabook. When making a request, ask the library staff to provide you with a Summer Reading Challenge bag of books.

If you can’t get to your local library, you can access eBooks, audiobooks, comics and magazines for free that you can use to complete the challenge at home.
