THREE of Swansea’s popular venues are getting ready to welcome visitors back safely as Welsh Government Covid-19 restrictions continue to ease.

Glynn Vivian Art Gallery will be re-opening its doors to socially distanced visitors from May 26 and the Dylan Thomas Exhibition will follow a day later.

Swansea Museum will re-open from June 8 and all three venues will be asking people to book their visits in advance so everyone can follow the rules and stay safe.

Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for investment, regeneration, and tourism, said the council is delighted that visitors will be able to return to the venues after such a long break.

He said:

“It will be great to welcome visitors back and we want to reassure them that our staff will be doing all they can to ensure people have an enjoyable and safe visit.

“At the start of the pandemic 13 months ago our teams quickly adapted to the situation. They provided excellent online services so culture fans could stay in touch with their favourite venues and enjoy the attractions safely from a distance as part of our Enjoy #AtHome activity.

“They’ve also taken the opportunity to do essential maintenance and conservation work to spruce up the venues and protect and enhance items in their collections.

“Now there’s been a green light for the public to return, Collection exhibits will be returning to their homes in the venues over the coming weeks ready for doors to re-open.

“I know our venue staff can’t wait to be able to welcome visitors again and in a safe manner for all concerned.  Special arrangements have been put in place to manage numbers at any one time and to ensure that people can keep a safe distance from one another.

“In order to do this, people will need to book ahead and visits will be time-limited. Other measures will be in place to ensure that staff and visitors can all enjoy the experience safely. Visitors will need to wear masks indoors at our venues.”

Cllr Francis-Davies added:

“After being away for so long, it is going to be an exciting time for visitors and staff alike. The gradual relaxation of rules has happened because we’ve all been playing our part and following the rules.

“However, we need to remember that the virus is still with us and we need to ensure that we continue to act responsibly.”

More details about the arrangements, including online booking forms, will appear on venue web pages ahead of re-opening on enjoyswanseabay.com
