RESIDENTS have slammed an application to vary the premises licence of a holiday park that would allow live music outdoors until 2am on weekdays.

Trecco Bay Leisure Park in Porthcawl has applied to Bridgend County Borough Council (BCBC) for a variation to its premises licence that would allow live and recorded music outdoors until 2am from Monday to Sunday.

If approved, the application would also mean that Trecco Bay Leisure Park, owned by Parkdean Resorts, would be able to extend its opening hours to 24 hours a day from Monday to Sunday.

A number of residents listed their concerns on social media – claiming that allowing loud music to be played until 2am would cause too much disruption.

One resident of Newton village, Janet Davies, said she thought the idea of the holiday park having a license to play music until 2 am was “preposterous on many counts”.

She said:

“The sound we get from there now is bad enough. When the wind blows in certain directions it’s like someone is having a party next door.

“Newton has many elderly residents, some have serious health issues and need their sleep .

“We all need our sleep and loud music [until] 2am is out of the question.

“The residents of Newton would happily sign a petition against this proposal.

“If Parkdean [wants] to extend their music hours let them do it inside where hopefully we can’t hear it.

“Please have some respect for local people.”

The notice of the park’s application to vary its premises licence states that all other licensable activities and hours will “remain as existing”.

The events and entertainment at the park are designed for holidaymakers and holiday home owners, so any change to our licence would not lead to increased traffic in the area.

A spokesperson for Parkdean Resorts said: “Trecco Bay has been part of the fabric of Porthcawl for over 50 years, and we have always taken our responsibilities to be a good neighbour very seriously.

“Guests visit our park for a relaxing break, so noise control is one of our key considerations.

“This application would extend our music licence by just one hour, and would cause minimal disruption for guests or local residents as we would only seek to operate later hours events on a handful of occasions each year.”

A BCBC spokesperson said:

“The application is currently going through the public consultation stage, and all relevant objections will be taken into consideration by the licensing sub-committee before a decision is made.”
