TWO individuals and a housing company have been summonsed to appear in court following the alleged felling of protected trees, including a giant redwood, in Penllergaer.

The legal action is being taken by Swansea Council after it alleged that 70 protected trees were felled without authorisation.

The authority claimed the trees were felled on land at Penllergaer, near a housing development that is being completed by Enzo Homes Ltd.

Following a five-month investigation, the council has issued a court summons to Enzo Homes Ltd, Fiorenzo Sauro and tree contractor Arwyn Morgan.

All parties have been told to appear at Swansea Magistrates Court on May 28.

Councillor Mark Thomas, cabinet member for environment and infrastructure management, said: “This case is something we have taken very seriously and it has taken a lot of hard work to get to this stage.

“It has taken months of investigations and assessments of the site in question – which is in private ownership and not part of the development site at Penllergaer.”

“Obviously I cannot predict the outcome of this case, that is a matter for the courts, but I’m pleased we are taking appropriate action.”
