Trimsaran Surgery to welcome patients back from 5 July

HYWEL Dda University Health Board is pleased to confirm the reopening of Trimsaran Surgery following its temporary use as a COVID-19 and flu vaccination centre for patients of Meddygfa Minafon and Meddgyfa’r Sarn.

The surgery closed temporarily last spring at the start of the pandemic and services were diverted to the main practice, Meddygfa Minafon.

Over the course of the COVID-19 vaccination programme, the surgery delivered 6777 doses of the Oxford Astra-Zeneca vaccine to members of the community.

Following the completion of those eligible groups that were allocated to the GP practices to vaccinate, the health board is now looking to reinstate a range of services in Trimsaran Surgery from Monday 5 July including:

  • Urgent GP appointments (subject to triage)
  • Nurse treatment room clinics
  • Phlebotomy sessions
  • Midwife clinics

A telephone triage system will continue for those requesting an appointment, with assessments carried out virtually where clinically appropriate and safe to do so. Where a GP assesses a patient as needing to be seen face-to-face, this will be arranged.

Social distancing and the use of face coverings remains in place across primary care sites for the safety of patients and staff. Footfall in the practice is being kept to a minimum, and patients are asked to use the secure box at the entrance to drop-off prescription requests.

Jill Paterson, Director of Primary Care, Community Services and Long Term Care for Hywel Dda University Health Board said: “I’m delighted that services will be returning to Trimsaran Surgery and would like to thank local people for their patience and understanding during this period.

“I’d also like to thank patients for their co-operation during this unsettled time; I appreciate that many people have had to travel to neighbouring Minafon Surgery for essential services.

“While General Medical Services are still under significant pressure, the team at Trimsaran will be there for patients, providing consulting and advice over the phone and via video calls, and seeing people face to face where appropriate.”
