NEIL HAMILTON, AM for Mid & West Wales and Leader of UKIP Wales is calling on budding farmers to attend an exciting event to help them on their way.

Mr Hamilton, Party Spokesman for Agriculture and Rural Affairsis urging people to find out more about farming opportunities at The Celtic Manor Resort, Newport next month.

The new one-day event, ‘Start to Farm’, will bring together farmers of the future from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales to share ideas, best practice and innovation and is open to everyone looking to start a farm business irrespective of their background and age.

Mr Hamilton said:

“This is a wonderful idea for aspiring farmers. I welcome conferences like this which will encourage more people into the agricultural industry and help to safeguard its future.

“It will also enable entrepreneurs interested in becoming involved with farming to hear the experiences of others.  They will gain invaluable insight and advice so it is well worth attending.

Welsh farmers are the country’s unsung heroes and I welcome any initiatives to encourage more people to take up the role.

Farmers work extremely hard every day of the year to produce the nation’s food, care for the environment and sculpt the picturesque landscapes for which Wales is famous.

“I would urge any budding farmers from Mid & West Wales to make sure they enrol to attend on Tuesday June 4”.

Among the inspirational keynote speakers will be Hannah Jackson, The Red Shepherdess and star of Channel 4’s SAS Who Dares Wins and the Budge sisters from the Shetland Islands, recently featured on the BBC’s ‘This Farming Life’.

There will also be several different sessions and workshops on topics such as, practical financial and legal guidance; exploring joint ventures and different business models and future policy discussions around new farm business and new entrants.

The event has been developed together by the UK section of the European Newbie Project and Farming Connect in Wales and is supported by Barclays Bank and other farming organisations and professionals.

The venue is The Celtic Manor Resort, Newport, between 10.00 – 16.00.  Attendance is free but spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. For more information contact Del Evans on 01970 600176 or delyth.evans@menterabusnes.co.uk.
